Design Optimization for Enhanced Patient Comfort in Pelvic Health Treatment

About Client

A leading medical device manufacturer in the Netherlands, specialised in pelvic health, engaged iOrbit for medical device product development to create a consumer home-use variant of their existing clinical pelvic health device.

The device helps in targeted and effective treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction in females with accurate diagnosis. The unique design of the probe makes it suitable for both rectal and vaginal use.

Client’s Challenge

The challenges with existing system are

  • The professional system is complex and costly
  • The system is limited to specialised clinicians in clinical environment
  • Inability to continuously monitor the progress
  • Requires patients to make frequent visits to the clinic

This calls for a new variant which the users can use themselves at home. The home-use variant should be more user-friendly without compromising on the features. It should also support existing probe design as the probe is expected to be the same and not expected to be redesigned.

Design Focus

The project scope covered medical device industrial design, mechanical design and prototyping - core medical device design services delivered end-to-end by iOrbit.

  • Industrial Design
  • Mechanical Design
  • Prototyping

iOrbit Solution

User Pain Points

  • Social stigma, misconceptions causing delayed diagnosis
  • Limited access to care, Geographical & financial barriers
  • Diagnosis challenges with overlapping symptoms
  • Usability issues, discomfort leading to poor adherence

The Solution

  • Device shall have a wearable design with smaller form factor
  • Fully concealed wearable design for a sense of privacy
  • The device shall be placed at the pelvic floor area and shall have unobtrusive operation
