iORBIT 10 Year Celebration | A Decade in Healthcare

Some milestones deserve more than a cake in the office pantry.

The iORBIT 10 year celebration brought the entire India team to Chikkamagaluru to mark ten years of building connected healthcare technology. Three days surrounded by coffee estates and the Western Ghats - and, for the first time, every one of us in the same place at the same time.

A decade in. Ten years of building for hospitals. Ten years of engineering medical devices that have to work the first time, every time. And one weekend to step back and look at the people who did it

Everyone in one frame

There's a particular kind of energy that only happens when a distributed team finally stands shoulder to shoulder. Engineers who had only ever met over video calls. Design and delivery folks who share a Slack channel but not a floor. Founders, veterans of the first year, and colleagues who joined a few months ago.

The group photo under the string lights on the estate is the one we'll keep. It took four attempts and a lot of shuffling to get everyone in frame — which, if you've ever tried to align a cross-functional team on anything, feels about right.

Walking the estate

One of the best sessions of the trip wasn't a session at all.

A group headed out into the coffee plantations with an estate guide, who walked us through the different varieties grown there, how each one is shaded and tended, and what separates them through harvesting and processing. Coffee vines climbing silver oak, whole hillsides of it, a system worked out over generations.

It's hard not to draw the parallel. A coffee estate is an interoperability problem solved with patience - different varieties, different growth cycles, one shared ecosystem. That's not a bad description of what iTouch does with hospital data either

Cake, speeches and the ten-year story

The formal moment came in the conference hall: a cake, a projector, and the whole team crowded in.

Leadership walked everyone through the decade - where iORBIT started, the early bets that worked, the ones that taught us something more expensive, and how the iTouch IoMT Cloud Platform and the iZen Product Design practice grew into what they are now.

What stood out wasn't the numbers. It was how many people in that room have been here for a significant slice of the ten years — and how many joined recently and are already carrying real weight.

The unscheduled bits

Meals that ran long. Breakfast conversations that turned into roadmap conversations and then back again. The founding team and long-timers at one table, comparing notes on what the first office looked like.

None of this shows up in a project plan. All of it is why the next ten years will work.

Why any of this matters

We build software and devices for healthcare. When a vitals reading doesn't sync, when an alert doesn't fire, when an integration drops at 2 a.m. — the cost isn't a support ticket. It sits with a patient, and with the clinician standing next to them.

That's a heavy thing to carry for ten years. You carry it with a team that takes it personally. The iORBIT 10 year celebration was three days of remembering that the platform is made of people..

To the hospitals and clinical teams who let us into their workflows, told us plainly when something didn't work, and stayed with us while we fixed it. Ten years of product decisions were shaped by that feedback.

To our OEM and distribution partners, who backed iZen designs through regulatory review and into manufacturing, and trusted us with programmes where failure wasn't an option.

To the people who were here early - the ones who joined when iORBIT was an idea and a whiteboard, and stayed long enough to see it become a platform running in real hospitals.
